The Oklahoma Strong Monument is a privately funded project, initiated by a small group of citizens who had a desire to pay tribute to the resiliency and strength of the people of Oklahoma. Though the project was born after the May 2013 crisis, it is not a memorial to the tornado; instead it is designed to be a monumental celebration of community and the strength that results as our people come together, Oklahoma Strong.

The monument, designed by Connie Scothorn with CLS and Associates, will be placed at the north end of the new 50-acre park in the central area of Moore, Oklahoma. The park will be a gathering place for community with a new community center, aquatic park, farmer’s market and amphitheater.

The monument will be approximately 85’ in diameter and constructed of core-ten steel. Encircling the monument will be silhouettes of 85 to 95 Oklahomans – including pets – in various forms of interaction. Kinetic lighting and the music of Oklahoma’s great artists, past and present, will bring even more life to the structure. As seasons change, the lighting and music will also change. Bricks will be sold as a part of the fundraising campaign and will pave the walkway around the monument. The surrounding space will include various types of seating and landscaping.

The goal is $3 million dollars with plans for a significant endowment to the City of Moore for future upkeep of the monument area.
